The difference between 316 and Stainless Steel

However, for projects that require a significant amount welds, 316L can be a better choice due to the fact that 316 is more prone to welding corrosion rather than an 316L (corrosion in the welding). However, the 316 can be annealed so that it can resist welding attenuation. This is a ideal stainless steel to use in high temperatures and high corrosion, which is why it is used in construction and Marine projects.
The 316L and 304L are not the same. 316L is the least expensive option. The 304 is similar to 304L however, the price is less. The 304 is not as robust as the 317 or 317L, which have greater molybdenum content as well as better in general resistance to corrosion.
